Have you been in situations where there isn’t any time to pray a novena for 9 consecutive days or even for 9 consecutive hours?
Times when you’re almost at the verge of of panic…You need immediate help, relief, comfort, etc.
Times like these, I pray the Memorare to St. Joseph or the Memorare to our Blessed Mother nine consecutive times. I then pray a 10th Memorare in thanksgiving, knowing God would act.
I learned this from an article I read years ago about Mother Theresa. The article said the Memorare to our Blessed Mother was one of her secret weapons and when faced with difficult situations, she would pray an “express novena”, nine Memorares in a row. Then she would pray a 10th Memorare, confident that her prayers would be answered.
I first prayed this novena when my Mom lost consciousness for the first time because of her aortic stenosis. Beforehand, her doctor told me when that happens not to call 911/paramedics anymore but instead just wait until she regains consciousness or she may not regain consciousness at all.
Waiting was such a torment for me so I would pray the Memorare to St. Joseph or to our Blessed Mother.
My Mom has lost consciousness 11 times in the past 3 years and each time, I waited and wondered if she would ever regain her consciousness.
And each time, I prayed the Memorare and each time, she regained consciousness as soon as I finished praying the Memorare the 10th time.
Praying the Memorare gives me so much inner peace. I instantly feel Mama Mary or St. Joseph is right beside me, and their presence envelops me with so much comfort and peace.
Note that this prayer is not a magic formula but a sincere expression of a great faith in God and belief in the powerful intercession of our Blessed Mother and St. Joseph.
You may be familiar with the Memorare but if you’re not, below are the words of the Memorare:
Memorare to St. Joseph
Remember, O most chaste spouse of the Virgin Mary
that never was it known that anyone who implored
your help and sought your intercession was left unassisted.
Full of confidence in your power, I fly unto you
and beg your protection.
Despite not, o guardian of the Redeemer, my humble supplication
but in your bounty, hear and answer me. Amen.
Memorare to our Blessed Mother
Remember o most gracious Virgin Mary
that never was it known that anyone who
fled to your protection, implored thy help or
sought your intercession was left unaided.
Inspired by this confidence, I fly to you
o Virgin of Virgins, my Mother.
To you I come, before you I stand sinful and sorrowful.
O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petition
but in your mercy, hear and answer me. Amen.
